OPEN GYM

Open gym?! Who doesn't love open gym?!

Whether we operate at our facility or remote locations, time slots throughout each week are reserved for open gym which is far from your typical helter-skelter, undisciplined, and bad-habit forming scrimmages at local playgrounds and recreation centers.

 

Our open gyms are co-ed so at times, we may break up young athletes based on their gender to provide better matchups during 3-on-3 or 1-on-1 segments (depending on the age group). During our 5-on-5 scrimmages, we also make sure that at least one girl competes against another with appropriate substitutions made to get everybody minutes. What separates our open gyms from others is that they are controlled scrimmages similar to "pro runs." We use one-third of each session to warm everyone up properly and put them through a few shooting drills and skill development segments to set the mood to improve. While players are warming up, we are splitting up teams and we may use our projector to play a short clip which explains what we are emphasizing during the open gym.

 

We put young athletes in game-like situations to make sure they are playing the game the right way and staying sharp especially since the basketball season has been delayed due to COVID-19. For example, the first mini-game may be zone defense and then the next mini-game, the offense may run no-dribble offense to move without the ball.

For our Day Ones Members, we allow up to two-thirds of the capacity for our open gyms (each age group) to be reserved in-advance online or via our branded app (A.D.A.P.T. Basketball) found in the App Store and Google Play. To learn more about the perks of being a Day Ones Member, please click here. The remaining spots are reserved either with a payment from a household's account via our branded app in MINDBODY (credit card on file or account credit), a payment to our business account via EFT (CashApp, Zelle, PayPal, etc.), or in-person on the day of the open gym. Similar to ticket offices, the remaining spots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will not honor any verbal requests or take payments to hold a spot days prior. Therefore, people can come to our facility to pay as early as when we open, but it may be best to contact us the day of, to check if spots are open and then we'd request the money (please don't send money without a spot being confirmed!).

Lastly, we understand carpooling is the norm as it is a collective effort amongst neighbors, friends, and family members to get children to activities. However, for newcomers, waivers and other documentation must be filled out in-person or electronically if a parent/guardian will not be present (we can send DocuSign forms to expedite the process).
